Crep Capsule: Best Sneakers of 2014

The 2014 sneaker scene opened doors to a new realm of exclusivity. While the Jordan Brand was churning out many of its inline retros, Nike was still at the top of its A game, dipping its feet in luxury territories and continuing to fill the hybridised gap between Hip-Hop and its natural, rhythmic alignment within the sneaker world.

Crep Capsule: Best Sneakers of 2014

Performance silhouettes were at their peak and not limited to the guys wearing Jerseys and hitting foul free throw lines on the courts, the functional sneakers became a part of what we would call a larger-than-life industry. Making the die-hard collector, sneaker purist or the common Joe feel connected to their favourite teams and sports, and it is believed that 2014 facilitated the ‘lifestyle market’ more than ever before.

We could go on all day convincing you that 2014 was one of the most coveted times in sneaker history, or we could just crack on with our lineup. Without any further adieu, let’s take a look at our favorite sneakers from 2014 - then we’re sure you’ll know what all the bragging is about!

Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 SB QS

Nike is no stranger to a silhouette crossover, and this time the global powerhouse wanted to be the talk of the skate parks with the Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 SB QS.

The AJ1's high-rise design made it a natural choice for skaters, offering superior ankle support that quickly earned it a place in skate culture. The SB line has been a skateboarding staple for over a decade, and the collaboration with the legendary Lance Mountain solidified its iconic status with a minimalist yet impactful design.

2. Nike Air Yeezy 2 ‘Red October’

It is hard to think of a time before the adidas-yeezy clan and then the Air Yeezy 2 ‘Red Octobers’ springs to mind. The early 2014 release opted for a red monochromatic finish, sleek midfoot strap, and contrasting metal aglets - the bread and butter for any sneakerhead.

3. Supreme x Nike Air Force 1 High ' World Famous' Pack

Release Date: October

Supreme x Nike Air Force 1 'World Class'

Nike reigned Supreme once again in 2014 and this time it worked its magic on the iconic Nike Air Force 1 High. Dubbed the lauded ‘World Famous’ pack, the duo repurposed the white-on-white design in lively iterations of black, white and red providing a stealthier feel to the ‘82 fit. Bold Supreme inscribed logos lie on the heel, while the sneakers’ ‘World Famous’ wordmark dresses the heel strap for the ultimate completion up top.

4. Kobe 9 Elite High' Christmas'

Release Date: February

Kobe 9 Elite High 'Christmas'

the Kobe 9 Elite High 'Christmas' dropped and quickly became the gift every sneakerhead wanted under their tree. This festive gem sported a mostly red Flyknit upper, hints of white peeking through, and a black Swoosh that screamed sleek.

The multicolored camo-patterned midsole and outsole added a splash of holiday cheer, with green accents sneaking into the foam insert and heel notches— it’s without a doubt that these sneaks are the gift that keeps on giving.

5. Nike Air Huarache ‘Triple Black’

Release Date: November

2014 also saw Nike have its foot-hugging moment with the release of the Nike Air Huarache, and this time this neoprene beauty arrived in a rather laid-back ‘Triple Black’ color scheme.

Even 10 years later, this silhouette is the sleek choice for those hitting up the gyms, walking the streets or anyone who wants to inject a little nostalgia into their running routines. We can’t deny that this shoe is the perfect balance between the lifestyle and functional scene, now all we need is for the silhouette to resurface sometime in the future (we hope!).

6. Nike Lebron 12 'NRSL'

Release Date: November

Nike Lebron 12 'NRSL'

When the Nike LeBron 12 ‘NSRL’ made its grand entrance in 2014, it was nothing short of a game-changer. This one sported a Hyper Turquoise Megafuse upper that kept things light, avoiding any unnecessary bulk—perfect for those who like to stay quick on their feet.

The icy blue outsole featured a hexagonal pattern that gripped the court like a pro, while the modified Nike Zoom Air unit made every step feel like walking on clouds. With Dynamic Flywire providing that snug fit and Hyperposite overlays offering solid protection, these kicks were more than just a pretty face—they were a technical masterpiece!
